OK, speculators, speculate this!

Sarah Palin announces her resignation.

Andrea reads this: “But Palin also hinted at her own national ambitions, invoking a quote that she credited to Gen. Douglas MacArthur: “We are not retreating, we are advancing in another direction.” Good for her. I’d be thrilled if she ran again, nationally. I wouldn’t personally have the stamina for that kind of abuse, but I’d be thrilled.

Sarah is merely being wise and taking the lead instead of letting the Obama thugs put her on the defensive. She’s running in 2012, I am sure of it!
And I will be working for her success!

I unfortunately think that quitting her Governor’s post a year and a half before her term was up, even if it was to focus on a Presidential run, was a big mistake. It looks bad and makes people suspicious that this is to hide something else. There are a lot of people who’ve been defending her this whole time who think it harms her credibility. It makes her look like a quitter, and that’s not a quality people will want in their President.

If this move was to take pressure off of her family, or to evade being put on the defensive, how is running for President going to mitigate that? This won’t stop her enemies from attacking her. They’ll use this to do the exact opposite!

I like Sarah Palin, but I don’t think she has the right abilities to run for anything higher than a place in the US Senate. And let’s be realistic here: She quit her job halfway through her term. It’s political suicide. There is now no chance of her ever winning a national election, let alone her own party’s primary.

I think Palin knows this, and has made the decision to retire from active politics (she would be an excellent fundraiser, establishment GOP campaign worker) because of the attacks on her family. So while I disagree with abdicating an executive position as she did, I still think she has taken the higher and more laud-worthy road in the end.

That is, unless she does try to run for Republican nomination in 2012.

I love Palin and this made me sad. I wonder how things would have turned out if her kids had not been viciously attacked.
