Cannot. Stop. Laughing.

The next frontier: Greening the sex-toy industry. We’ll do anything for the environment, including giving new meaning to the term “tree-hugger”. [WARNING: this is for people with a sense of humour. Chronic nit-pickers, please skip this one.]

How great must it be to have a job where you find that sentence leaving your mouth? Policy analysis is BORING.

I fail to see what’s so funny. A lot of people today are trying to reduce the environmental impact of all goods – often ineptly – so it’s hardly a surprise that sex toys are on the list.

The lack of regulation is an issue. Unfortunatly there is no political reason to apply safety regulations to sex toys – the only politicians interested in them seek a ban. In some places – Texas and Alabama come to mind, not sure if anywhere in Canada has similar laws – the sale of all sex toys is a criminal offence, forcing the toys into the murky legal territory of ‘novelty items’ where they are officially sold as decorations, and their real purpose is an open secret.

My former workplace had a ‘fair trade’ food vending machine. People were so insulted by the prices, the machine was often sabotaged in protest by stuffing coffee-stirers into the coin slot.

My favorite line in the article was

“even one’s orgasm can have a traceable carbon footprint”.

Yes, breathing is very bad for the environment.

Ah, but Brigitte, the implication there is that you need all kinds of toys and rubber and vibration to actually have a real orgasm. Anyone who could manage to get off with merely skin and breathing…well, they are obviously faking it.

I was laughing, but now I’m thinking that there is a definite perception out there that sex is made all the better when you bring in outside help. And that perception saddens me.

This is my favorite line, also to do with nipple-tassles: “But how great when you’re twirling them around to feel: ‘This isn’t made by a sweatshop in Taiwan.’ ”

Yup, cuz I want thoughts like that at moments such as these. Hawt.
