I really shouldn’t read the news before going to bed. But here it is:
During routine procedures at 10:00 AM Eastern time, some Members of Parliament voted “nay” when MP Woodworth asked for unanimous consent.
Under Parliamentary rules Woodworth could not, without unanimous consent, bring this Motion to a vote and his only option was to seek unanimous consent from all Members.
There are no other Parliamentary options for Motion 476. “This marks a dark and dangerous day for Canada,” Woodworth said. “Members of Parliament who voted against this motion have refused to endorse the essential principle of democratic governance which requires legal recognition of the equal worth and dignity of every member of the human family.”

Make no mistake about it–I am 100% pro-life–but somewhat cantankerously sometimes I play the devil’s advocate. And I also think that religion is a deciding factor in the abortion debate as it is in life in general. The “human family” of which Mr. Woodworth speaks only exists because of the nuclear family in which a man and his wife have children made in their image, half-father and half-mother. As the potter has power over the clay, so parents as authors of their children do have parental rights. I think the primary reason that they do NOT have the right to kill their children is the Christian understanding that man (Adam’s) Father is God, and He as their originator has said–after the Fall, no less–that they were made in His image so that He keeps the authority to decide their length of days. Of course, since He gave His minister, the civil government, the power of the sword (Romans 13), it also has the right to kill in the performance of its responsibility of punishing violence.
We need to know which of our MPs voted against this. Does anyone know where we can find that information?
