March for Life

May 12, 2016 by Andrea Mrozek 3 Comments

Biking in to work today, I could see lots of brightly coloured t-shirts on folks walking around on Parliament Hill and on Sparks St. saying things like “I AM PRO-LIFE” –me too, young people, me too. Carry on.

Today is a rare day when if you are pro-life you will be surrounded by hordes of others who feel similarly. That is to say, today is the March for Life on Parliament Hill. The rally starts at noon, the marching starts at 1:30 pm.

It is a beautiful day–the best we’ve seen yet this Spring. See some of you on the Hill! tulips-1321025_960_720

How was it? How many people showed up? Who were the speakers?

I was at the Edmonton March and there were an estimated 4000 people there.

There’s a new anti-life narrative doing the rounds. I first heard it from several people in the office yesterday, then again on local CBC this morning. It goes like this: these people (March for Life) are really putting us out by blocking traffic, slowing down buses and generally making it hard to get around the city. Ironic isn’t it? In past years, the narrative has been that only a handful of people showed up for the March; now, it has evolved into there are so many people at the March that the citizens of Ottawa are being terribly inconvenienced.

First of all, thanks for persevering and getting your comments through, we are sorting through some technical difficulties. I was on the Hill but not marching… the Hill was good but sound quality was poor. When I returned to my office I heard a melee 19 floors below and looked out the window to see a group of angry counter-protestors, with black and red flags. From the distance I actually didn’t think it was March for Life related, but apparently, it was.
