Suz Kipps, on You’re offended, I’m offended… so what?:
I am very offended that they are taking these ads down. I thought they were very tastefully made. Just gave people a lot to think about.
My niece became pregnant at 14… to make a long story short, the authorities became involved and actually were trying to get her to have an abortion. Comments like, “you don’t need your mother’s permission”, “if the baby is under a certain weight we will take it in the hospital anyway”. Thankfully my niece had Nicholas and he will soon be 2, a very delightful child. He was just under 7 pounds and very healthy, but they wanted him over 7 pounds. She did get to keep him, but what a strain to put on any pregnant woman much less a 14 year old. Doesn’t look good, Ontario.

Thank you for posting our story on your AMAZING web site, and for helping to spread news of our story. Keep up the good work.

Philippa Sheppard, on You’re offended, I’m offended… so what?:
If people are offended by what is true — that Canada allows abortion until term — then they should think about changing that fact. A democratic nation should allow anyone to express their opinion (as long as it doesn’t incite violence) no matter how offensive others may find it. There have been many abuses of democracy over abortion. For instance, Prolifers in BC are not allowed peacefully to protest abortion within range of an abortion clinic. This seems to suggest that the authorities are worried women going into the clinic might reconsider. Shouldn’t they have the freedom to reconsider? If only their babies had that freedom too. The authorities seem keen to hide the truth from people — that women are killing their babies late into their pregnancies, and often for very casual reasons.
[…]
Why should the baby die because their mothers “forgot” to take the pill one night, and a child wouldn’t “fit” into their current schedule? The law on abortion in Canada is ageist — it privileges the rights of women over the rights of babies. As feminists, we are meant to be responsible and mature about our lives — that means facing the consequences of our actions, even our mistakes, ourselves, not making someone else, in this case, an innocent, vulnerable baby, pay for them. If women get pregnant, and do not want their babies, then they should put them up for adoption. There are thousands of ideal couples in this country who are dying to adopt a child and have to go through painful and costly measures to adopt one from far away. If Canadian women put their unwanted babies up for adoption, they could be practically guaranteed of having their babies brought up by loving, mature, responsible, and financially secure couples, who have been carefully screened by adoption agencies. Instead of depriving their babies of life for the sake of nine months’ inconvenience, they would be giving them the chance of a great life. Isn’t this the most humane and responsible “choice”?

Suzanne, on Gaaaack! Huckabee calls abortion slavery!!!:
I would advance that in the States, his comments are far less controversial than one might think.
Most people in the US are personally against abortion. That is a fact. “Middle-of-the-road” voters in the US are not going to be swayed one way or the other by that statement. They don’t care about the abortion issue. It does not affect their vote. I also have a hunch that most people do not believe that the abortion situation is not going to change in any radical way in the next ten years or so, so they don’t feel affected. Your average 20-something who gets pregnant will still be able to find a clinic to get her average first-trimester abortion.
Besides, I think people who’d vote Republican are wary of the MSM anyway.

Hear, hear! Abortion is NOT going to be recriminalized any time soon (and even if it were, people would still seek them and offer to do them). Therefore, our best hope is to change hearts. And the way to do that is to constantly fight the doom-and-gloom attitude that babies ruin, simply RUIN, lives.

In abortion there are two victims, the death of the unborn child and the mother who will now experience lifelong side effects, physical and psychological.Regarding the unborn child, we must see the truth that this child has the same dignity as those born persons. Human beings have the nature of persons, as you know, a nature that has been created by God, Eternal Reason. Human beings, thus, possess inalienable rights—including the right to life. Because of this nature, there is far more to life than the merely tangible; indeed, the true purpose of human existence lies in the possession of the intangible–Eternal Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. It is this purpose that gives every person, born and unborn his/her inalienable dignity. This inalienable dignity and thus inalienable right to life does not come from the state, it comes from God. In the case of the unborn child it is not a women’s right to have an abortion because the unborn child has an inalienable right to life. And it is the duty of the state to uphold this inalienable right to life.

The AD is misleading…there is NOWHERE IN CANADA where a womyn can receive a late-term abortion…there is only one place in North America which is in the US that provide late-term abortions for womyn under EXTREME circumstances. It is good that they took it down….The AD is not offensive it is BS.
Suzanne replied:
Lisa,
That is absolutely incorrect.
Margaret Somerville reported on CTV’s the Verdict that she was consulted for a 32-week abortion for a cleft chin.
I have documented a late-term abortion done on a 27-week-old fetus in Quebec circa 2005 for partially missing a 21st chromosome. A thesis was done on his case, and it was concluded that the malformations were minor.
Quebec Health Minister Philippe Couillard recruited late-term abortionists in 2005 to perform operations. Late-term abortions are now being done in Montreal.
In 2002, the Quebec College of Physicians put out a report on perinatal mortality for the year 1998. The doctors noted that several dozen abortions were performed in the third trimester, including 2 done at 36 weeks gestation.
There is a famous case of a 35-week-old fetus being aborted at a Calgary hospital in 1999. He survived 12 hours and no one came to his rescue even when the mother asked for it. No charges.
Abortion Clinics do not normally do late-term abortions– although I know at least one in Toronto does abortions up until 24 weeks.
Hospitals can do late-term abortions, and they’re not called “abortions” they’re called terminations or inductions and they’re coded as stillbirths. These do not make the abortion stats.
These are not all “extreme circumstances”. Often the reasons invoked for the abortion are very treatable conditions– Down’s Syndrome and Spina Bifida being among the most common causes.
Genetic reasons are usually the reasons behind late-term abortions in Canada.

Marlene, on “Changing abortion’s pronoun”:
This is such a powerful video. There are perhaps many men like this man who have come to realize this kind of deep raw loss at some point in their lives, and then rarely seek support to grieve that loss. Men need to be encouraged to seek counselling that facilitates an open forum to share, express, and investigate for themselves what options they have when dealing with a pregnancy they did not plan or were not ready for; and also a place to freely share and talk to someone about their grief. This is certainly a case of unnecessary devastation.
