I’m trying to think just now, of who I can personally ask to give money to this crowdfunding effort for the Gosnell movie. The funding is ticking upwards, but they have not yet met their goal and I really hope they do. Ponder who you can send a request to donate to. Here’s the link.

Again:

  • These are great filmmakers (I’ve seen two of their other movies)
  • They are doing something totally counter-cultural
  • This will draw attention to the plight of the unborn in general, not just in the Gosnell case
  • We need more pro-life documentaries and movies

First, the notion that the mainstream media did not cover the Gosnell case and trial is wrong: http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/gosnell.asp

Next, I’m sincerely curious about what you think will be accomplished by the making of a film. Will people go to see it? Will it change minds?

Fern Hill! It’s been too long. To answer your points:
The media did cover it after being called out on the lack of coverage.
As for what is accomplished, well, at a very basic level, I believe the historical record always ought to show that there were those who noticed these atrocities while they were going on, not after the fact.

In fact, there were quite a few people trying to bring this horror to the state’s attention for a long time and many of them were abortion providers who heard the stories from patients

    http://www.thenation.com/article/158089/dr-kermit-gosnells-horror-show#

Gosnell even tried to join the National Association of Abortion Providers. They said: no freaking way!

    http://books.google.ca/books?id=I1s_YgiTKc0C&pg=PA90&lpg=PA90&dq=gosnell+national+association+of+abortion+providers&source=bl&ots=tJljH55kEV&sig=-SqhurztO7YWbVQGN5uhIGqc1gU&hl=en&sa=X&ei=oHJmU_iNDpeqyASduoBo&ved=0CD8Q6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=gosnell%20national%20association%20of%20abortion%20providers&f=false

The elephant in the room is, of course, the fact that the very laws and rules anti-choicers impose create the conditions that foster Gosnells. Gosnell is exactly what happens when abortion is made inaccessible, expensive, shameful. Gosnell is the archetypical back-alley abortionist.

Why don’t we have a Gosnell in Canada? Because abortion in Canada is free from meddling rules made by people other than healthcare providers. Here it is a private medical matter between a woman and her doctor.

    No room for Gosnells.

Fern Hill, this went on between 1979 and 2010. If abortion rights folks tried to shut it down, they did not try very hard. Here in Canada, when a basic law was brought forward in Quebec to bring all medical clinics up to better standards, it was the abortion clinics who protested. It may be comfortable for you to pretend Canada is immune to this, but I don’t believe it is true. Finally, and another reason why I support the making of this movie, whether it is scandalously unclean, and disgracefully disrespectful to women and their children OR bright white and sanitary, killing kids as matter of professional routine is killing kids. How we do it changes but the substance of the matter does not.
