I’m sorry, but I can’t take someone with such a limited vocab seriously. Anyone who relies on the F-word to punctuate their speech probably doesn’t have that much more to offer from the rest of their thinking. It’s about stooping to the level of those you decry – not.

Well, I’m someone who believes strenuously (as proven by years of publicly writing this blog) that if you can’t write it without using a swear word then you shouldn’t write it at all (same goes for speaking: use swear words only in rare circumstances. They have more impact then!) But I have to think that your home being burned and looted around you qualifies as a rare circumstance and she was probably scared. I can’t say for sure what would come out of my mouth under those circumstances and I’m hoping it would be something as opposed to nothing. I’m also hoping those who later heard it would have grace if it was less than eloquent, or included some cursing.

Sorry, Julie, but you’re being terribly parochial. Amongst working-class Londoners, the word “fucking” barely signifies. It’s a verbal tick that means little more than “well” or “er”. To refuse to take a Londoner seriously because they use the word is much the same as not taking a Canadian seriously because they say “eh”.

If swearing upsets you, don’t ever visit Glasgow.
