ABC News puts positive spin on partial birth abortion providers

January 21, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

Vilifying those people who dismember babies in the third trimester in utero is not the point.

I know, as do most, that the line between good and evil lies within every human heart. This is not to say that pro-lifers are Good and abortion providers are Bad. We are both subject to the same sinful temptations. It is to say that abortion providers are relying on the evil side in their hearts on this issue and are choosing not to pay attention to that which could be truly good, right and beautiful. The women getting these abortions are described as crying and being in anguish–with good reason.

This is not something we can be relativistic about. Babies, clearly babies, even if sick, even if dying, are still people and when we dismember them limb from limb for no reason or for a very good reason, we do wrong.

And by the way, I don’t care whether abortion providers look like ogres or my grandmother:

Robinson decided, “I want to be a face that is not that gruesome guy from Philadelphia, Gosnell, those ghastly botched abortions. He’s the face of late abortion. I look like someone’s grandmother. It’s a little harder to make me into a bloody butcher.”

Actually, it’s not that hard at all.

Are we calling all late term abortions partial birth abortions now? Partial birth abortions are illegal in the States. Tiller’s method of abortion was to inject the baby with poison and then induce labour. That’s not partial birth abortion, but it is still pretty gruesome.

Why on Earth would somebody try to put a positive spin on this? When you have 78% of the PRO-CHOICE population (that is a supermajority, by the way) wanting to make this illegal (and 94% of the prolife population), why is it legal?

I love how reporter repeats over and over that this is a hard decision for the women involved. You know what? Abortion in the first trimester is a hard decision too. And yes, while a larger proportion of abortions are done in the third trimester for maternal or fetal indications, the majority of third term abortions are elective. They are done simply because the mom doesn’t want a(nother) baby.

By the time you’ve made it to the third trimester, it is unequivocally safer for the mother to carry to term than it is to electively abort. I simply cannot understand how we can tolerate third term abortions. It is like the abortion advocates actually think that if they admit that third trimester abortions are wrong, then they will have to admit that all abortions are wrong. They think that if abortion is made illegal for a certain subset of pregnant women, then it will have to be made illegal for all women everywhere.

Is there really no nuance with these folks? Do they really see the world only in black and white? No shades of grey at all?

I wonder if Shelley Robinson has ever denied a woman an abortion. At least she is old, and won’t be doing this for all that much longer. And there really aren’t hordes of doctors lining up to take her place. We will win out in the end.

Interesting… only the names have changed. We have seen this type of “doctor” before, except that back then he was known as Josef Mengele.
