Abortion is not a “woman’s right”

September 5, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 3 Comments

It’s not a man’s right, it’s not a right. It’s an issue of competing rights, is about all I’m prepared to concede, something Natalie Sonnen so eloquently explained for us.

This small rant comes to you courtesy of this article in the Globe and Mail about Kelowna having a “protect human life” week.

Isn’t the whole ‘rights’ issue nothing but Animal Farm? Someone has a right to ‘free speech’ and someone else decides what speech is to be free. Someone has a right to ‘liberty’ and others decide which liberties are allowed. Someone has a right to do something but that something always affects others and someone else decides if that is going to be allowed or not regardless of what the ‘others’ think. With ‘rights’ there is always someone deciding who gets what rights. Perhaps the idea that we are autonomous, completely independent, beings whose existence is supposed to be reflected in a social, political system that guarantees the same is a bogus idea. The completely autonomous idea is just that, an idea and an idea that is not reflected in reality. We live IN the world and we affect and are affected by all else. Recognizing this would be a first step to getting along in a supportive society. Rights are doomed to the Animal Farm. Being responsible to the world that is allows for harmony.

This may be too much thinking on the topic for our soundbite world. 🙂 Good points.

Appreciate the positive comment. I do think that solid, reasoned, thinking is worthwhile, something that I perceive Pro Woman Pro Life tries to do. After all, ‘Come now let us reason together.’ was an invitation.
