Andrea said, “I was just talking with somebody about no-fault divorce recently and when it was brought in, it was thought to be a positive development, freeing for people experiencing abuse in marriages, for example. At this point, we’ve seen negative implications as well.”
A negative implication that you might not have thought of–a Canadian citizen who works and marries overseas might not be able to take his family to Canada for a visit. The foreign spouse can’t get a temporary resident visa based on marriage to a Canadian citizen. Too many foreigners have married only for the purpose of divorce upon arrival in Canada.
