Jessica Zelinka and Lolo Jones

August 8, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

Since we’ve mentioned both women on this blog before, here’s a clip of the race neither of them won.

There’s also been this article  in the New York Times about how Lolo Jones is “all about the image,” writing that “women have struggled for decades to be appreciated as athletes.” If that’s true, then I’m not sure how running in bikinis helps the problem, for Lolo Jones or anyone else.

Véronique Bergeron in the Globe and Mail

August 8, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

Check out this story from yesterday, featuring one Véronique Bergeron of ProWomanProLife fame.

The article isn’t terrible, but as I told Véronique, the Globe and Mail is, from a worldview standpoint, completely incapable of taking on the issues of families, working and daycare in a way I would truly appreciate.

Also, feel free to comment on the Globe’s comment page. It could use some normal, respectful people from what I can tell (although the comments are not quite as vicious in every case as I would have expected). You will need to sign in to make a comment and yes, this is a pain, however, worth your while.

Another pro-life voice

August 7, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 1 Comment

This is a new site: Pro-Life Liberals. I am not a pro-life liberal, it should go without saying. However, I certainly do appreciate every person who “comes out” in support of life. I’m also aware that a handful of my readers are (perhaps I should do a poll to find out just how many. Hmmm. A thought).I also find that being pro-life can bridge many a political divide, since regardless of other political views the desire to eradicate abortion is a very strong one for so many of us.

Welcome then, Pro-life Liberals, and happy blogging.

The other side of Modern Family

August 6, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

I found this personal life story of a young man raised by lesbian moms to be very sad. Since I’ve recently starting watching old seasons of Modern Family, reading this provides a mirror that ain’t going to become a sitcom anytime soon.

Not deliberately intended to drive pro-choicers crazy…

August 5, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

…but it will. This new 3D ultrasound promises parents sculptures of their developing baby.Which might serve to remind the world that what’s in there is…a developing baby.

Yes, abortion does carry risks. A cruel reminder.

Should pole dancing be an Olympic sport?

August 2, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

The short answer is no. A big N-O. A solid and resounding no for so many reasons. “It’s like gymnastics,” they say. Except that real gymnasts, well, they do gymnastics.

Words you’ll never hear in Canada

August 2, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 7 Comments

Mike Huckabee’s comments on the Colorado massacre: “We have a sin problem.” These are words no person however loosely affiliated with politics in Canada could or would ever utter. I’m not saying whether they should utter them, I’m simply saying that I find it interesting that you cross that magical 49th parallel and life here is different.

The question of the day

August 2, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

When did feminism become so embarrassing? A good read, this article is.

I also generally shy away from celebrations of meaningless vulgarity, which, sadly, seems to be the leading theme in both Moran’s book and in the gigantic, flaming, multi-car pileup that is modern-day feminism.
