A pro-life protestor is shot in Michigan:
State police at the Corunna post have confirmed a well-known anti-abortion activist was shot multiple times and killed this morning in front of Owosso High School.
A little bit more on this, here.
Seems a bit surreal to me right now that someone would actually do that so I’m holding off on any commentary until I know more. This is bad news.

Andrea again: You can’t help but notice the silence is overwhelming. A man was murdered outside a high school. If he hadn’t been holding a pro-life sign, we would have heard more about this by now. Tragic.

Brigitte adds: On Sunday the White House released this statement from President Obama:
byWASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is calling the shooting of a Michigan anti-abortion activist “deplorable.”
The White House on Sunday released a statement from the president on the shooting of James Pouillon. Obama says that “whichever side of a public debate you’re on, violence is never the right answer.”

This recent murder was an injustice. The murder of Dr. Tiller, too, was an injustice. And guess what? Even if these two people had of been murdered as babies, it STILL would have been an injustice.

Why is this not all over the mainstream media???

To be perfectly fair, shooting deaths in the USA are commonplace enough (unfortunately) that they don’t usually make the national news unless they involve someone famous or there is some unusual twist to the story. From what I’ve read, no motive has been assigned to the killing yet. It’s quite possible that the killer’s motives had nothing to do with the victim’s views in which case there’s no story.
Or it may turn out that his views were very much at issue in which case we will probably hear more about this in days to come.

James Pouillon? I’ve never heard of him. Is he only famous in the local area?
I’m with Sarah. If he were a really famous anti-abortion activist and he was shot, I’d say that was almost certinly the motive. But he isn’t really famous, or I would have hard of him. Maybe it’s just a simple mugging gone wrong, or some local thugs with a gun and plentyful supply of some illegal drug. We’ll know once someone is convicted.
Andrea Mrozek says
From the Michigan Free Press: “Colbry said the grievances were not known in detail, but that the killing of Mr. Puillon was related to the latter’s anti-abortion protest. But he said, ‘The defendant was offended by the manner of Mr. Puillon’s message.'”

And it’s gone national. Here’s an AP report on Yahoo:

President Obama said that “whichever side of a public debate you’re on, violence is never the right answer.”
Then why is there a debate, President Obama? A debate requires at least two sides.
