“Open season on so-cons on campus”

January 25, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

Interesting article by Jon Kay. The “freedom wall” at Carleton and also the attack against Trinity Western are both reasons to believe he is right. When I read some of the opposition to Trinity Western University it makes me wonder whether the authors have ever, ever given even a cursory examination of what Christian beliefs actually are. Many these days haven’t; and they are running on false assumptions. Also interesting is that it seems the sexuality issues (abortion, homosexuality, marriage) are THE touchstone for freedom of speech in Canada today.

Every day is a victory for the pro-life movement

January 24, 2013 by Faye Sonier Leave a Comment

In a recent interview, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life commented on the pro-life movement’s successes. Josh Brahm of Life Report prefaced his question to Father Pavone by noting that some pro-lifers are discouraged and questioning if the American movement has accomplished anything since Roe v. Wade.

As the 25 year anniversary of the Canadian Morgentaler decision approaches, and we are reminded of what the decriminalization of abortion has wrought in our country, we should consider Father Pavone’s words.

In response to Josh’s question, “What has been the pro-life movement’s greatest victory or victories?” Father Pavone shares the following:

Well, it’s always in the lives that we save. We know that there have been over 53 million children killed by surgical abortion since Roe v. Wade. But the numbers would be astronomically higher were it not for the work of the pro-life movement because we can count many of the lives that we have saved.

For example, the pregnancy centres are the best at doing this. They know the women they have served, the babies that have come back in their arms… [the mothers] saying “Hey, I would have aborted this child if it weren’t for you.” We know those numbers. Millions upon millions of children that were saved. But also the countless others that we cannot count because we do not know.

So the first, and most important accomplishment, is that. And as I always say, all the effort, all the activity of the entire pro-life movement would be worth it even if just one single human life were saved as a result. Or even more – even if just one single life we tried to save – and even if we hadn’t succeeded.

This is what we mean by the incalculable value of even a single life.

January 22nd and 28th may be the anniversaries of Roe v. Wade and Morgentaler. However every day is the anniversary of a life saved. Every day of the year, millions of children, teens and adults celebrate their birthdays because someone in the pro-life movement shared with their parents that life is precious and offered them care and support.

Let’s not lose heart. We are making a difference. We are saving lives. Let’s celebrate that fact every day.

Welcome Faye Sonier

January 24, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek 3 Comments

Friends, countrymen, lend me your ear: Today we welcome Faye Sonier as a blogger on ProWomanProLife. I am very excited about this. Faye is passionate about the life issue like no one I know, including myself, and she always has interesting thoughts/comments. Welcome Miss Faye, I am looking forward to reading your posts! You can read a bit more about Faye, here.

In describing the “rules” of blogging for Faye, I thought now would be a good time to mention to readers that actually we hope to increase the non-abortion-related content on this blog. When we started up, this was to be like a pro-life version of The View, and therefore, no topic was off limits. So initially there were some fashion posts, and entertainment posts, but as those dwindled, I would often get feedback to those posts along the lines of “Why did you post that?” To that I say, why not? We are keeping it free and easy over here. We are pro-life women enjoying LIFE to the fullest. That is the true hidden agenda of this blog.

Finally, as we approach five years of existence, that’s five years since the 20th anniversary of the Morgentaler decision, thank you for your continued reading and support. We remain but a small contribution to the pro-life scene, but nonetheless a good place, I hope, for women perhaps isolated on campus or by geography to virtually gather and know that pro-life women are neither an anomaly, nor are we repressed, neither are we an unhappy lot of horrible nags. Finally, finally (I’m wrapping up my Oscar-like speech, here) I know we have lots of male readers too, and I more than appreciate that, since abortion is not fundamentally a “women’s issue.”

“Only someone who had gone to university could write something so utterly stupid”

January 23, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

Free speech wall torn down by seventh year human rights students. I’m chuckling as I write. And in total agreement with Fred Litwin, founder and director of the Freethinking Film Society:

Only someone who had gone to university could write something so utterly stupid,” said Fred Litwin, the Ottawa-based creator of the blog Gay and Right, in reference to Mr. Smith’s Tuesday morning Facebook post.

Indeed.

Woah. Apparently this is not a spoof

January 23, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek 5 Comments

Not a spoof? Really? Wow. This is an ad for the Center for Reproductive Rights. Apparently a group of people with no emotion, no taste, and a large side order of the diabolic.

Sun News Network: Sign the petition!

January 22, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek 4 Comments

My friend Brian Lilley is asking for our support. I would love it if we could help him out. Brian is an upstanding guy, dedicated to the promotion of pro-life ideals in Canada, in a respectful manner.

Here’s his note, and the petition is here.

As I mentioned, Sun News has asked for a change to our licence that will allow us to have the same treatment that CBC and CTV had when they launched. Right now there are few Canadians that can even choose to order and watch Sun News since many cable companies will not carry it at all. Sun News has been a strong voice supporting pro-life, pro-family and limited government ideals. This is what my show, Byline, has been about from the beginning. While this makes us different from the rest, I see that as a good thing since we add a news and diverse voice to the conversation. We are asking friends to help us out by signing our petition which will tell the CRTC that Sun News is a valued service that all Canadians should have access to. You can sign up by visiting www.CanadianTVFirst.ca

Thanks so much,

Brian

“It’s time for a new feminism”

January 22, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

Indeed, it is time for a new feminism. High time. I was listening to a talk the other day in which the speaker declared that women will always be better women than men, and men will always be better men than women. The problem therefore with feminism is that a small minority of women decided being a woman was not worthwhile, and so they forced all women to compete in the race to become more like men, on their terms. It’s not a game we can win. Nor should we even try. It amazes me sometimes how profoundly anti-female feminists are.

Anyway, the most profound way in which feminists demand that women be more like men is in our abortion-friendly culture. And that’s why I appreciated this article. Certainly the number of women who get it is growing.

I’m not alone in challenging the old feminism, in which women’s equality comes at the cost of their femininity. By continuing to promote abortion, lawmakers, politicians, social workers, lawyers, educators, and all parties with a vested interest in women’s health and wellbeing distract themselves from providing women the resources and tools they really need to be happy and healthy.

Is the pro-life side winning?

January 22, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

A good analysis of the Time magazine article. Much more nuanced than what I posted (without reading the article first, for shame).

This quote strikes me as true to a certain extent:

A feminist leader once said that most Americans are pro-life with three exceptions: rape, incest, and “my situation.”

The sly seduction of abortion works very well on all of us, even those who previously claimed to be pro-life.

Justin Bieber’s mom making pro-life movie

January 22, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

It’s called Crescendo. Coming soon to a theatre near you. The trailer looks intriguing.

The article I linked to highlights how Pattie Malette (Bieber’s mom) wouldn’t have kept him without converting to Christianity first. And I’m sure many will use this knowledge to simplistically say “all pro-lifers are religious.” I say thank goodness for the different worldview Christianity provides, one in which people prioritize people. We should be grateful to Christianity, whether we practice it as a faith or not, for teaching us to put people first and acknowledge the humanity of the small, the weak and the powerless.

Personalized iPhone cases for sale

January 21, 2013 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

I have not purchased one myself, but a ProWomanProLife reader asked me if I knew of anyone looking to buy personalized iPhone cases. And so I thought there would be little problem in indicating these are for sale on the site. They look cute and there is certainly a wide range of options. I have not purchased one myself, because my iPhone 3GS is on its last legs and I will need to upgrade soon. Anyhoo, here is the necessary link to consider. Also here. Apparently shipping to Canada is no problem. (This PWPL reader is in the USA.)
