Empowering women, for real

January 27, 2014 by Natalie Sonnen Leave a Comment

This is an excellent ‘must see’ trailer of a documentary that is coming out on reproductive health sciences that may shake-up the ‘establishment’ a bit.  For decades, women have been prescribed synthetic hormones that have often harmed, not helped their fertility.  Now, thanks to the incredible work of Dr. Hilgers, we have a health science that truly helps women understand their cycles, achieve and avoid pregnancy, and treat most fertility problems.  It’s natural, it’s inexpensive, and it’s incredibly effective.

This is a MUST for all women:

Brilliant Pro-Life Video by Texas Alliance for Life

January 21, 2014 by Faye Sonier 4 Comments

Just brilliant. The way they structured the video, the quotes, the women and girls who spoke. Brilliant.

(I cried and my son kicked. Just another day in the home office…)

Christian’s story

A follow up on an earlier story. Touching. I note that tiny, two-year-old Christian has a Tennessee accent. Cute.

“March with me”

January 21, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

When I saw an email in my inbox, asking me to promote the March for Life, I assumed it was for the Canadian March for Life, which made me think, hey Canadian pro-lifers, you are on your game! Advertising so early, since our march is in May. However, turns out it’s an ad for the US March for Life, which is tomorrow. So I post it now, almost too late, and yet standing in firm solidarity with everyone who wants to see life prevail, regardless of where they live.

Abortion is the law of the land, so that’s that

January 21, 2014 by Faye Sonier 3 Comments

At least that’s Ron Liepert’s talking point. He was a finance minister under Alison Redford and he’s now seeking the Conservative nomination for a new riding, Calgary-Signal Hill.

Here’s his quote from a LifeSiteNews article:

“They are laws of the land. We honour the laws of the land and it’s not appropriate at this time for Mr. Anders or any other Member of Parliament to be trying to go against the wishes of the majority and try to reopen these debates. So far as I’m concerned, it’s done and over with,” he said.

There are many reasons Liepert could have identified for not wanting to address the abortion issue. About four seconds of Googling would have resulted in a number of arguments to support shying away from tackling this gross human rights violation. It’s not that I would agree with the arguments – but hey, they’re out there. We all know they’re out there.

I just can’t believe that this is the talking point his team came up with. How many provincial and federal bills have the sole purpose of amending existing “laws of the land.” Like…almost all of them. Our elected representatives spend their days reviewing and amending “laws of the land.” This is what goes on in legislatures. On a day-to-day basis. All the time.

So how is this an argument in favour of the abortion status quo? It simply isn’t.

(Of course acknowledging that we have a legislative void when it comes to abortion in Canada. We do not have a law regulating abortion access.)

“Dad is fat”

January 18, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 1 Comment

Comedian Jim Gaffigan, author of “Dad is fat” with David Letterman. Not a new segment, but funny. Gaffigan has five kids, raises them in a two-bedroom apartment in New York City and apparently the book title is the first sentence his son ever wrote.

What’s funny is that in his circles, five kids is a lot. In my circles, it’s roughly the median.

Saving babies

January 17, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 1 Comment

Crazy Christians… out on the barricades. Twins saved from abortion. Here’s the story.

For a mom who was going to have an abortion because she had no support, I’m not surprised she kept them especially upon finding out they are twins, which would be, of course, harder for a mom with no support. Something about two people in the womb really drives home the separateness. Not your body, not your choice.

The Christian lady who helped her, who can’t utter two words before preaching Jesus, makes me laugh. God bless her. I guess she might be annoying in real life, but hey, she’s holding those twins and please note–still involved in their lives. Even though they are born and all that jazz, she appears not to have taken off as is so often the criticism from people who hate pro-lifers. Reminds me of this Onion story… just a little anyway. I hope people out there remember that statistically speaking it’s faithful folks who give more and do more for people around them. And they do so out of a conviction that Jesus asks them to. Even if that makes you uncomfortable.

Support Guelph Right to Life in three easy steps

January 16, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 4 Comments

Your response is needed. This month (January, 2014) a petition was created to express opposition to Guelph & Area Right to Life’s bus ads. Over 2500 people have signed this petition. While this petition carries very little usefulness a) because of wording b) because of who it is directed to, the petition does make these bus ads appear unpopular. It will shortly be sent to Mayor Karen Farbridge, the City of Guelph and Guelph Transit. As a result Guelph & Area Right to Life is asking you to quickly express your support for Guelph & Area Right to Life’s bus advertisements in three easy steps.

1) Forward this email to [email protected]

2) In your forward write
a) Your first and last name
b) Your organization (if applicable)
c) Your mailing address (you will not be added to a mailing list)
d) Your phone number

By providing your information you are agreeing to the Statement of Support written below. Your name and organization will be included in a list of social movements, human rights organizations and individuals who share the beliefs expressed on Guelph & Area Right to Life’s bus ads. 3) IMPORTANT: Please cc the following in your forward to [email protected]
Mayor Karen Farbridge: [email protected]
City of Guelph: [email protected]
Guelph Transit: [email protected]

Cc’ing the email addresses above immediately highlights to them existence of support for beliefs expressed in the bus ads while Guelph & Area Right to Life waits for all names and organizations to send in their support.

——————————————————————-

STATEMENT OF SUPPORT

Guelph & Area Right to Life’s advertisements carried on Guelph Transit buses express important belief held by Canadian citizens; Canadians believe 1) scientific data exists to provide evidence showing a human who is not yet born is a human child and 2) there are alternatives to abortion.

Expression of this belief, and opposing beliefs, is protected under Section 2(b) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms: “Everyone has the…freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication”. While this belief is offensive to some, the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards states offense “…is not sufficient grounds for objecting to an advertisement…”.  Further, these ads do not breach or violate the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards.

The social movements, human rights organizations and individuals listed below welcome and support the initiative taken by Guelph & Area Right to Life to express their belief and opinion through advertisements carried on Guelph Transit.

TV show “16 and Pregnant” led to fewer teen births

January 15, 2014 by Faye Sonier Leave a Comment

According to this CNN article,

The declining teen birth rate is a well-documented trend in the United States. Between 1991 and 2008, the rate dropped steadily at an average of about 2.5% a year. In the past four years, it has dropped even more dramatically at a rate of about 7.5% per year. […]

“The results of our analysis indicate that exposure to ’16 and Pregnant’ was high and that it had an influence on teens’ thinking regarding birth control and abortion,” the researchers write. […]

Kearney said that while she and Levine did a lot of “fancy economic work” to make sure their conclusion was right, the most compelling evidence came from the teens’ social media language. “The text of the tweets are phenomenal: ‘This reminds me to take my birth control.’ ‘Watching 16 & Pregnant, going to take my birth control,’ ” she remembered reading.

So it seems (but I don’t have sufficient data to back this up) that it’s not necessarily a matter of teens having less sex, but having sex and trying to use contraception more often and possibly having more abortions.

So nothing to really scream for joy at it just yet. I’d like to see more data.

But it closes with a note of good news for parents who want to encourage their kids to put off early sexual activity:

And parents, Albert says, are often shocked to learn that teens say their parents have a major influence on their decisions about sex.
