“Your life is not over”

April 4, 2016 by Andrea Mrozek 3 Comments

Wise words from a young woman. Wish there was more out there like this, stories from women who face an unplanned pregnancy and keep the baby. How great that someone was able to encourage her, that there was a place to go, even though she was very angry at the time. I’d love to go more in depth with her on how things are going, how she is achieving her goals, what kind of help she is getting, what has been the most difficult, what has been the most rewarding. That kind of thing. Certainly seems to be a bright, young woman–and with a bit of perspective, it’s hard to see how her beautiful daughter will “ruin” her life.sisters-931131_960_720

A quick review of Hush

March 30, 2016 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

I’m going to write more about this later. I saw Hush last night. Just quick this morning, let me give you the one word review. EXCELLENT.

It’s excellent. It’s a high quality, well-produced, extraordinarily thoughtful look at the possible physical and mental side effects of abortion for women.

It is near impossible to cut through the terrible din of people shouting about this issue. Near impossible, but this film may actually achieve a slight détente in the pro-life/pro-choice rhetoric. Indeed, that’s what it aims to do.

The film’s creator is herself pro-choice. So she comes to the issue asking questions. And she thoroughly researches the answers–giving respect to both sides in this dialogue of the deaf.

I’d say the biggest bombshell of the movie is the simple fact that major organizations like the National Cancer Institute have failed women. She was actually escorted out of the National Cancer Institute. She’s not a Michael Moore-style documentary maker–she’s thoughtful and respectful to abortion providers and pro-lifers throughout. That she was marched out spoke volumes to her, and to me too. Why not sit down and explain why there is no link between abortion and breast cancer, for example? They didn’t–so the film’s director Punam Kumar Gill  goes ahead and does her own research on the topic. What she finds is disquieting and compelling.

After the movie, there was a panel discussion. Three women shared about their abortions and the outcomes for them. Brave to do so. One of them suffered 11 miscarriages and has only one son today. Eleven miscarriages. So important to hear their stories.

I’m going to think about how to host a viewing and you should too. What they need is money. From their Facebook page:

Saturday, APRIL 16 –
the date for our most exciting Crowd Fund ‘Perk’ – the chance to watch a private screening of the film prior to any other release AND from the comfort of your own home! On Saturday April 16th (available for 24 hours that day) we encourage you to invite a group of friends or family to watch the film online, and start some healthy conversation! All you have to do is give a donation to the Hush crowd fund p…age (www.indiegogo.com/at/hushdoc), claim your perk, and you’ll get an email from us a few days in advance with the link and individualized password for the online event!

Limited discount price for this Live Stream event!
The first 100 people who click on the “Secret Perk” link below will get access to a $25 ticket to this Live Stream event. This Perk is only available here, to individuals on the Hush mailing list or followers of our Facebook page.
There are another 100 – $50 Sale tickets through the Indiegogo page, and unlimited tickets to this Live Screening for contributors at $100 or greater.

Help us hit our goal of getting 300 people in on this advanced screening!

I say let’s help them hit a goal of getting 3000 people in on the advanced screening.

There’s my slightly longer than one word review. An amazingly well put together documentary. I’m going to go out on a limb and say if anyone is criticizing it, they are doing so because they haven’t seen it.

Andrea Cohen Barrack and PCC funding

April 15, 2015 by Faye Sonier Leave a Comment

Pat Maloney, Canada’s pro-life investigator, uncovered another interesting fact:

Remember when Fake Person complained to Trillium, and then Trillium revoked funding to Pregnancy Options and Support Centre in Sarnia?

Guess who the CEO is of the Ontario Trillium Foundation? Andrea Cohen Barrack

And guess who the Chairperson is of International Planned Parenthood for Canada? Andrea Cohen Barrack

The one and the same person.

Read the rest here. I’d like to know what kind of policies they have in place to manage conflicts of interest on these matters. How did Trillium decide to revoke funding from the pregnancy care centre? Who was involved in the decision making process? Perhaps Cohen Barrack had nothing to do with this decision. But perhaps she did.

Trillium is a government agency and I’m a very curious tax payer.

Pregnancy Care Centre National Day of Prayer

March 20, 2015 by Faye Sonier 2 Comments

Woman in PrayerPWPL isn’t a faith-based blog, but we know a number of our readers come from various faith traditions. Please join me and pro-lifers across the country on April 2 for the Canadian Association of Pregnancy Support Services’ first annual National Day of Prayer. Put in your calendar, set an alert on your smartphone. Let’s pray together.

Some prayer points:

PRAISE for God’s mercy, grace, and for the privilege we have to walk alongside those who are hurting, scared, and alone.

PRAISE for the difference pregnancy centres are making in communities across Canada.

FORGIVENESS for our country, for not valuing each and every God-given human life.

PURITY for all leaders in pregnancy centres and for the church as a whole – to seek His ways and follow Him.

PROTECTION from the enemy and the lies put out to distort the reputation of pregnancy centres.

BOLDNESS to stay true to our mission, especially when that mission is counter-cultural.

Prayer is powerful. It changes the world, and perhaps most importantly, it changes those of us who pray. In the words of Elizabeth Elliot:

Prayer lays hold of  God’s plan and becomes the link between His will and its accomplishment on earth. Amazing things happen, and we are given the privilege of being the channels of the Holy Spirit’s prayer.

Bah humbug!

I have learned about the effort of some this Christmas to withdraw charitable funds from those who would serve pregnant women in their hour of need. Every Christmas story has a Scrooge I suppose. I was watching A Christmas Carol recently and was reminded that the main point of A Christmas Carol is entirely lost in advertising. They never show his transformation to a generous, happy soul at the end of the movie.

For now, enjoy this clip from my favourite version (the only version, if you ask me) of A Christmas Carol:

“You can still accomplish your dreams as a single mom”

November 13, 2014 by Faye Sonier Leave a Comment

As this video from Online for Life testifies, pregnancy care centres are doing the good work of supporting and encouraging women in making decisions for life.

This woman facing an unplanned pregnancy and difficult circumstances had the opportunity to meet with the counsellors at a not-for-profit pregnancy care centre 11 times before making her decision. Eleven times. That’s dedication and care.

“I chose life. He’s here. It was a long journey, but we made it.”

Beautiful.

Carolyn Arends is a singer/songwriter I had the honour of meeting on Monday night at the Christian Advocacy Society event. She sang this song. Enjoy.

Pro-life event in Lethbridge on Saturday

November 5, 2014 by Faye Sonier Leave a Comment

This sounds like a great event:

Country music star George Canyon will be singing for a good cause Saturday when he pays a visit to Lethbridge.

Canyon will perform in concert at Southminster United Church starting at 7 p.m. in support of the Lethbridge Pregnancy Care Centre.

The centre provides emotional and practical support for those facing an unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy-related challenges.
