The impression you get about the protesters is much different when they don’t actually manage to drown out the speakers. When you can hear the speakers, the protesters actually prove themselves to be the unreasonable extremists by contrast.
As long as they drown out the speakers, an onlooker who didn’t know any better could imagine that the speakers were unreasonable and hateful. When the onlooker can actually hear them, the speakers prove the protesters wrong, and prove that it is the protesters themselves who are unreasonable and hateful.
The protesters have no faith in the logic or persuasiveness of their own argument.
