Women do not have one opinion on abortion; ProWomanProLife congratulates Status of Women Minister Rona Ambrose for her willingness to ask tough questions
September 27, 2012 (Ottawa)—Today ProWomanProLife would like to congratulate all Members of Parliament who voted yes on Motion 312, which called for a non-partisan committee to discuss when life begins.
ProWomanProLife specifically congratulates Minister for Status of Women Rona Ambrose for recognizing that Canadians can ask questions about when life begins.
“ProWomanProLife recognizes that women across Canada have many different views on abortion, which are probably neither firmly in the pro-life nor the pro-choice camp,” says ProWomanProLife founder, Andrea Mrozek. “However, since M-312 called only for discussion, voting in favour of it is a vote for debate and democracy and that can only be a good thing. Minister Ambrose is to be commended for having an open mind.”
“M-312 was not expected to pass, and indeed it didn’t. However, it advanced our ability to respectfully ask questions and debate the issue of when life begins,” says Mrozek. She continues: “All Canadians, whether pro-life or pro-choice are served well through respectful debate.”
“There is a stranglehold on freedom of expression around abortion, a dictatorial attitude that somehow all women are supposed to be fervently pro-choice,” adds Mrozek. “This is simply not the case; women don’t have one mind on this issue, as with so many other issues,” Mrozek concludes.
ProWomanProLife represents women across Canada who are pro-life because it is a pro-woman position to take. The idea that abortion is a woman’s right is just an opinion, which is not grounded in law, logic, our constitution or early feminist thought.

I just realized that she was the Minister for the Status of Women. Wow, that was a gutsy thing to do!
