Do you want your union to be spent protesting against pro-life organizations? See this press release from Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform below:
The Canadian Auto Workers’ Union Takes on the “New Abortion Caravan,” Organizes Sweeping Counter-Protests across Manitoba and Ontario
Regina, SK. The largest private worker’s union in Canada has come out against the “New Abortion Caravan,” an appropriation of the famous pro-abortion 1970 Abortion Caravan, by the controversial anti-abortion group the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (CCBR: http://www.unmaskingchoice.ca/caravan).
The anti-abortion caravan has been attracting widespread media coverage on television and radio from Vancouver into the prairies, and angry denunciations from abortion rights activists. Now the Canadian Auto Worker’s Union (CAW) is wading in, promising counter-protests at each of CCBR’s presentations across the country. (http://www.caw.ca/en/11272.htm)
Julie White, CAW’s director of Women’s Programs, responded to CCBR’s caravan in the following statement: “In April 1970, the Vancouver Women’s Caucus set out for Ottawa…Their actions would lay the groundwork that would see the legalization of a woman’s right to choose. Today 42 years later, an organization known as the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform wants to take away our rights using fear, guilt, and shock tactics. Join us at the counter protests and let’s once again tell them that our reproductive fights are not up for debate” (http://www.caw.ca/en/11279.htm).
Stephanie Gray, CCBR’s executive director, responded by saying, “The old Abortion Caravan brought us abortion, which decapitates, dismembers, and disembowels pre-born Canadian children. We seek to redeem history.”
Gray also added: “I also find it shocking that the largest private worker’s union in the country is using its union dues to advocate for abortion. Participation in this union is mandatory, and yet people like CAW president Ken Lewenza are using the union dues of pro-life auto workers to advocate for Canada’s status quo as the only Western democracy to have no abortion restrictions. Canadians are forced to fund abortion with their tax dollars, and now CAW members are being forced to advocate for it with their union dues. What does abortion have to do with workplace issues for autoworkers? It is unfortunate that Ken Lewenza has no respect for his employees’ freedom of conscience.”
The New Abortion Caravan will be in Regina today, then heads into Manitoba and Ontario as the week progresses. The schedule of the New Abortion Caravan’s presentations can be found here: http://www.unmaskingchoice.ca/caravan/events

You do know you are breaking the law by putting up posters in downtown regina? Now that I know what organization it is I will be contacting the Regina Police Service/City of Regina AGAIN and reporting you. So whoever put the posters up does get charged & fined. Religion and what you are protesting is not needed anymore and the way you are approaching it with such graphic images is just as lame as your morals. What gives you a right to tell women what they can and can not do with THEIR bodies and stopping people from taking their children out and being subjected to explain what they see to them.* I clued in and realized that this is what you want to do, try and get children to be against it from such a young age by letting them be subject to the images!! YOU approached this in the most disrespectful way & YOU are the ones who should have shame and walk with YOUR heads down.
Mary Ann says
Renee you need to learn how to write. “Religion and what your are protesting (that is abortion) is not needed anymore” means that abortion is not needed anymore. Well, that’s our point although that is not what you meant to say, clearly.
And oh, the horror of having lame morals. The lame graphic images show that abortion is not just about the women but about the living human beings inside the women, who are killed and end up looking the way they do in the lame graphic images. And then what does this mean? “What gives you the right to…and stopping people from taking their children out and being subjected to explain what they see to them.” I don’t know.
Renee what exactly it is that has got you so angry? That your child might see something horrible? No, that’s not nice but what was done to the little ones in the lame graphic images is pretty horrible too.
Andrea Mrozek says
Renee, not sure how you found us, but thanks for stopping by. The photos are offensive, because abortion is offensive. I would like to comment on using graphic images for children: this is not the intent of the Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform. They avoid areas where children might be in their work. Most children are “pro-life” anyway, although they wouldn’t give words to it that way, and need to be taught to be pro-choice. So the effort behind the graphics is entirely meant for adults.

There are way to many situations to take into consideration to be “pro life”. All i had to do to “find” you was to type in 3 little words. Genius, I know. The only reason I “stopped by” was to get your organizations name. There area a lot of angry people in Regina. To be bombarded by the truck while on the bus after work & then I get downtown and step off of my bus straight in front of me holding the signs. So to say you try to avoid places where children are not to mention your truck is BULLSHIT. Downtown, in front of a mall where all the city busses arrive and depart. Give your head a shake or 10 & stop worrying about what’s inside of my body and worry about yourself. I shouldn’t have to explain to my 2 year old what she just saw. & TONS of people here in Regina are taking the posters down that are GLUED up. Smooth move by the way. The city of Regina workers have also been taking the posters down along with civilian help. So, nice try! I hope the people who will be getting fines for this are PROUD.
