Becoming one of my fave annual events, The Freethinking Film Society brings in a lot of documentaries you wouldn’t otherwise see. Here’s the trailer for this year’s event. (Aftermath is also playing this Monday, September 9. This is the story of how Poland grappled with the cover-up of Poles as perpetrators of Holocaust crimes in Jedwabne, one Polish town, in World War II.)

Thanks for the note on this Festival (wish I could be there). Once again I recognize that a foundational issue that needs to be worked out is that of ‘freedom’. That is not to say the opportunity to have ‘freedom’ but rather the understanding of what is ‘freedom’. Whether it is in China, Poland, Denmark, the Mid-East or wherever we see two parties that are trying to limit the other which is an endless, futile activity. This futility is due to the parties defining freedom as being allowed to do whatever one wants. There are gazillions of things one can not do and that is not because someone else says so. I’d like to fly regardless of what someone else says but ….. . On the other hand if freedom is independent of what others say or do about yourself and is the realization/actualization of what one is ontologically then there is hope.
