As this CBC article notes: Harper won’t fund abortion globally because it’s ‘extremely divisive’.
“We’re trying to rally a broad public consensus behind what we’re doing, and you can’t rally a consensus on that issue, as you know well in this country,” he said.
“We have taxpayers’ money and we have great needs”
Exactly. So then why on earth are we funding abortion at home, here in Canada?

Provincially. We fund it provincially. And it’s not right, but we see here Harper’s private pro-life stance leaking into policy he has some control over.
Isn’t it possible the man has understood that getting elected in a majority government would not have been possible if he had a pro-life agenda as part of his platform? And that right now some NDP prime-minister could be about ready to sign off on billions of dollars in Canadian taxes to fund abortion overseas? I see a man who is exercising a great deal of wisdom, and the face of or nation could look very different right now otherwise.
Good points Tanya. I recall Harper saying that Canada can do nothing about the abortion issue until there is ‘a change of heart’. i think this reveals something about Harper both on a personal level and as a politician who sees Canada as presently unmovable at best on abortion. ‘At best’ I say in thinking Canada is perilously close to even more pro ‘choice’. If ‘hearts’ of Canadians, including the ‘media’, can change to even being open minded and willing to look at the ‘whole’ story of abortion then we will be that much closer to ‘opening the debate’ qand considering true health care for women and the unborn..
Though I never thought I’d say it, I agree, Tanya. I have these high ideals that lead me to believe everyone should simply engage with the truth on different matters, like abortion. This is why I am not in politics!
