I am somewhat skeptical…

I’ve heard about the joys of motherhood. But, um, pleasurable childbirth? Not so much… They have GOT to be pulling my leg, right?

Let’s see…rush of joy, rush of pain. Rush of joy…or…rush of pain. I know what I’d prefer. Why find the idea of pleasurable childbearing offensive? Unfathomable; unbelievable. OK. But don’t we have enough to get offended about? There are far too many twisted knickers these days.

Women have been having babies since Adam & Eve first got it on. You would think this phenomenon would have been noticed a few times before now. I have a suggestion. When you talk to those people about it keep one hand on your wallet I smell a get rich scheme coming on.

I do actually know some women who have had painless childbirths, in most cases due to preparing for childbirth through hypnosis. I don’t know anyone who has had an “orgasmic” childbirth, but I believe it can happen.

It’s astonishing to me though that people can be *offended* by the concept (or even by the sight of laboring women kissing their husbands!). Can’t we just be happy that these women had good experiences…or does our society secretly believe that we’re supposed to suffer in childbirth as per the Old Testament?

My two natural childbirths weren’t painless but they were the most exciting and amazing experiences of my life. I agree with Rachel that the high of childbirth (postpartum elation?) needs more press.

People are offended by this? o_O It never ceases to amaze me that people find a grown woman experiencing an orgasm (or three) while giving birth is something to be “uncomfortable” about yet our culture doesn’t seem to have a problem with sexualizing children (well, girls mostly) at ever younger ages. We’re so backwards.
