So President Obama wants dialogue and compromise on abortion? This lawyer in Washington DC suggests he start “by curbing fetal pain.”
He writes:
But about 10% of all abortions – approximately 150,000 per year – occur in the second or third trimesters, when scientists are uncertain exactly when the ability to feel pain begins. Methods of abortion after the first trimester can be particularly gruesome, such as the procedure opponents call “partial-birth abortion,” which is now illegal in some circumstances under federal law. But even other, less controversial methods of abortion have been described – by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an abortion supporter – as “brutal,” involving “tearing [a fetus] apart,” and “ripping off its limbs.” Any fetus capable of feeling pain would surely suffer greatly during such dismemberment. …is it too much to ask that they not be tortured to death in a manner we would not permit to be used on a terrorist, a murderer or a dog?
A couple of problems I foresee with this. 1) President Obama had not a bit of problem with letting born babies die alone, voting against Infants Born Alive legislation more than once, I believe. If he’s unconcerned about the pain of born babies, what are the chances the pain of the unborn will be a problem? 2) Pro-abortion types go apoplectic when you draw attention to any factor that allows the public to understand that the fetus in the womb might be sentient. 3) Obama might say he wants dialogue, but in reality, there has been a dialogue going on here for decades–and any time he’s ventured into the fray it’s been to inflame the proceedings by choosing an extreme position.
In short, I’m not as charitable as this Washington lawyer. (I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere, one that doesn’t make me look very good.)
If such an act were introduced to protect the fetus from the pain of dismemberment, sure, I’d support it. But I’m guessing I know already who wouldn’t. (His name starts with “O” and ends with “ama”.)
I’d love to be proven wrong. But I fear that the whole topic really is above Obama’s paygrade.

Well, that’s what Senator Obama said, though I doubt President Obama would repeat the mistake. The topic is within his paygrade, but he himself is below that paygrade. He must be unqualified and incompetent on this topic.

Is there any topic where Obama is not unqualified and incompetent?
Anyway, Andrea is right, there is no way Obama will support a bill of this nature. Like others who believe in unrestricted access to abortion, Obama will never vote for legislation that would in any way humanize the fetus.

I’d love to see Obama surprise me as well. I don’t expect it. I don’t guess the fact that it’s cruel and painful (and if you did it to a dog you’d go to prison) means a lot to him. The thing is that for people that far in the pro choice agenda, if they admit that the fetus is human then it’s no longer ethically acceptable to have an abortion. At that point they have to accept that they are killing a human being. It’s a lot easier on their conscience to call the baby a blob of tissue (leading to the logic that a blob of tissue doesn’t feel pain). The bottom line is that the white house puppy is going to get better treatment then unborn babies from Obama. There have been several states in the US attempting to pass personhood amendments, which would give unborn babies human rights. To date none have passed. Yet Obama seems to be effortlessly pushing through laws to make greater and easier access to abortions. It’s doubtful that he would support any legislation that protects the unborn babies. It’s too bad. There are millions of lives at stake.

My son is a NICU graduate. It was a Level III NICU, so they recieved some very sick and very premature babies. Those 24 weekers down the hall? The ones that, had their parents NOT wanted them or had been ill with birth defects, etc, that could have been aborted? Yeah, those? They felt pain. Yeah. Otherwise, the drs would not have given them PAIN MEDICATION for proceedures, nothing that when they did not give said medication, the babies would react (via the monitors and by facial expressions) as if they were, get this, in PAIN.
And if a one pound 24 weeker can feel pain outside the womb, you bet your tushies that they would feel an abortion at the same gestational age.
Sorry. Button hit. If hanging around a NICU for a bit doesn’t turn you militantly pro-life, nothing will!
