This is obviously an edited version of the interview. I’d like to see raw tape of the whole thing. I also wonder whether Couric had a camera on her for her questions, or whether she did re-asks after the interviewer was over. I am inclined to believe she had a camera on her, because her face was so hostile looking.
Palin is not all that articulate or prepared. But I also think she does not have a male-type brain that is gifted at remembering facts and details. I don’t have one like that either and neither did most of the women I worked with in television journalism, including many of national stature. Chantal Hebert was the exception not the rule. It is why you are likely to see many more male pundits than women pundits.
That doesn’t mean women are stupid by any means. It just means that this disc-drive type brain that allows for the retention and easy retrieval of say the date Meech Lake died etc. is not something I find a lot of women have.
Women in broadcasting and news have to do A LOT more advance prep and cramming of facts than most men in similar positions and generally find it a lot more stressful because their brains don’t work that way.
But I think Palin will bring something else to the table that is distinctly feminine and powerful. That is common sense, practicality and intuition guided by a firm moral compass.
Above all she will bring authenticity. There is a “there” there with her.
