National dialogue on “end of life care”

March 20, 2014 by Natalie Sonnen 3 Comments

Maclean’s is hosting a national dialogue on euthanasia.  I plan to attend the event in Vancouver.  There are events happening in Regina, Whitehorse and Mississauga.  For more information go here.

The ‘Conversations’ that McLeans is offering would do well to include ‘ The Fight for the Right to Life’ to ‘balance’ the conversation that is overly influenced by the singular voice of ‘The Fight for the Right to Die’. Research shows that good palliative care automatically reduces ‘requests’ for assisted suicide. Another ‘conversation’ that should be included is the record, the sorry record, of legalized euthanasia as it has lead to a number of abuses including a significant number of deaths when no ‘request’ has been made. The push by politicians to force Medical professionals to administer euthanasia by disallowing any moral, ethical, personal, religious or philosophical objections should be part of the ‘conversation’. The recent barring by the Quebec Government of input from the Christian Medical and Dental Society of Canada should be part of the conversation. Furthermore, including that Society and its’ Director, Larry Worthen, would be a positive step of ‘inclusiveness’ and ‘comprehensiveness’ allowing for a thorough discussion.

Any decision about who can or should pull the plug, and when and why, all should humbly submit the final word to the Creator of all; without which all humans fail and follow a path into oblivion.
