Pro-life ads

May 20, 2011 by Andrea Mrozek 5 Comments

Signal Hill in British Columbia does great work and they’ve come out with a couple of pro-life ads. I like the first one; I’m not such a big fan of the second one. Terribly hard to get “abortion ironies” right in tone and I’m not sure they 100% get it here…Still, I’ve always wanted to do short YouTube segments like this, so hats off to them for actually getting it done!

I don’t know, I kinda like the second one. I get very tired of the inanities of language surrounding abortion. I liked the scenarios it pressented – I found it put “wanted” babies on the same level as those pro-choicers deem “unwanted”.

I also like the second one. I agree, it definitely puts the wanted & unwanted on the same level.

I really liked the second video. It’s the one that I would have made if I had the know-how and right tools. It calls a spade a spade and highlights the intellectual dishonesty of the lingo used by the pro-choice side.

I think what I don’t like about the second one is that it seems to be a video directed at pro-choice activists, those who make the language convoluted, whilst appearing to be for the average woman on the street. Sure, it may help to clarify thinking but it does so in a sarcastic way and I’d worry that it borders on patronizing. I’m quite fine with patronizing an activist who deliberately muddies the water by using bad language…not sure how I feel about this approach with the average woman.

I see your point Andrea, and definitely agree that it was aimed at prochoice rhetoric. How it would be taken by a “gray-zoner” I’m not sure…I may show it to a few friends and find out!
I would like to think that even to someone in the middle it would raise questions in their minds, and whenever they do hear that rhetoric, they’ll see it for what it is.
