We Need a Law published an article I wrote today…
The other reality is that I’m six months pregnant. My son, Jack, seems intent to dance his way to the ninth month, whether that’s in his waking prenatal hours or in his sleep. The boy is kicking and stretching incessantly.
So while my laptop is propped up on a pillow just past my ever-growing belly, as I read about abortion procedures, Jack might kick enough to knock aside a page that is resting on my stomach. While I read pro-choice arguments that ring increasingly hollow, about choice or bodily rights, Jack is making my sweater ripple and bunch with his activity.
And this makes me feel sick, this reading about the killing and the rhetoric in defence of killing children just like my Jack.

First of all, congratulations! That’s really exciting news.
And secondly, I know exactly what you mean. I spend a fair bit of time reading about abortion, and the injustice of it all weighs heavily on my soul. I worry that immersing myself in all this sadness and destruction is turning me into someone who is cynical and hard.
I think that’s probably the main reason that so few people are willing to take up the fight: it is just such a depressing one, and it is definitely not good for your mental health.
Be good to yourself. If you need to take a break, for God’s sake please take it. You are doing good work here
Thanks Melissa. I hope it gets better once Jack is born, but I’m not optimistic. :/
I find it helpful to remember what is true and good. While I do find it a downer to look at abortion realities and pro – ‘choice’ arguments they are anti-life and lies. On the other hand if one can rest and appreciate that one’s self is for life and that it is true that life is actually within the woman and that pro-life ‘arguments’ are rational, logical and honest to the facts one might find encouragement, peace and even joy.
Thanks for the good reminder David!
