Set the bar high, my friend, set it high

September 9, 2010 by Andrea Mrozek 8 Comments

Today I was about to set out on a jog when my iPod up and died. It did not respond to CPR (reset, plug in, pull plug, plug in) so I rummaged through my drawers to find an MP3 player from an age when dinosaurs walked the land. It worked, but only radio (no volume control) and frequently no control over the station. So I was subject to the whims of said dino-MP3 player.

This led to some hits, if I do say so myself, like Africa and Living on a Prayer.

But then there was this more modern song (what are the kids listening to these days??) And I could swear the lyrics were “All I ever wanted was a one night stand.”

And I thought two things. 1) Young man–with standards like that there’s nothing but a bright, shiny future ahead! And 2) Now there’s words a woman would never speak.

(File this one under Love and Romance.)

Hey, I think I know him . . . he has four-or-so kids all in different parts of the country and gets to pay child support for all of them! đŸ˜®

Ahem…. While the question “What are kids listening to these days” is as valid as ever, all Longo & Wainwright ever wanted was a “one life stand”… Check it out: http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100331073748AAZSrI5

I am laughing very hard. Are you sure? What is a one life stand anyway?

Maybe it has something to do with cowboys at high noon?

I could claim it’s old age, but it’s not. Years and years ago I thought there was a song: “Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you.” Needless to say, that’s not it.

Andrea, Queen of the Mondegreen! (Is this pedantic enough for a fine, sunny Saturday morning?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondegreen

That’s okay. I used to think that “Secret Agent Man” was “Secret Asian Man” and I could never figure out how a man could be secretly asian and why he would want to keep it a secret or what it all had to do with being given numbers, and then wondered if it had anything to do with internment camps.

That’s hilarious!!I am older Andrea but don’t discount my mother-of-teenagers status: I know more pop songs off by heart than I care to admit…

But keeping to the original theme of jogging while getting scandalized, check out the latest from Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo Green (CAREFUL: do not follow the link if you are reading with children near-by. There are no images but the lyrics are seriously inappropriate.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAV0XrbEwNc Great beat for running… I’m not posting the link just for shock value: I believe that it’s important to keep-up with the world our children are growing-up in. I know many, many large families who aren’t.

The song does play on mainstream radio with the f-word and the s-word shushed… just enough to fly under the radar but still enough to let you know what the words are.
