I, too, would not disagree with anything written in this piece. But, I would bring more precision to the “arm analogy.” In fact, there are doctors who will amputate a healthy limb, although they do it illegally. And, there are fewer and fewer doctors who will perform abortions. It seems that, in the USA, at least, there are pro-choicers who seek to promote interns’ and residents’ taking specific training in induced abortions. They fear this growing threat to the right to abortion. I, on the other hand, am extremely grateful for this development.
What puzzles me are legal cases (particularly in the US) where a pregnant woman is murdered and the perpetrator is charged with the murder of the mother and of the child. This legal situation could certainly have ramifications for doctors performing abortions, but, obviously, when the child is aborted at the mother’s request, it is not considered murder.
This is the same country that did not ban partial-birth abortions (under George Bush). I find the situation bewildering.

What a terrific article. Jakki is right to talk about abortion as a human rights issue, not primarily as a faith issue. I appaud her for her continued and courageous support for lfe. She’s been doing this with the same passion for a long time now. She deserves our thanks and our prayers.
