Planned Parenthood in the USA is a wealthy enterprise.
The abortion giant [Planned Parenthood] took home $85 million in “excess of revenue over expenses” (a nifty way of saying profits) and had an operating budget of over $1 billion for the 2007-2008 fiscal year, according to its latest annual report. Included in that budget was $350 million in “government grants and contracts” (an equally nifty way of saying your tax dollars). An increase in the number of abortions performed helped fuel the profits.
Budgets don’t lie–and 85 million “excess revenue over expenditure” ain’t too shabby. Turns out the abortion industry is recession proof, too–they are doing better business now that people are worried about finances.

Can someone explain, then, why is it that Planned Parenthood asks for donations from the public? if they receive all this money from the government, and they are shown to be making a profit, why do they ask for charitable donations from people in order to continue their work?
I’d ask your local Planned Parenthood affiliate that question, Julie… Seriously. I don’t get it either. But private donations made don’t bother me as much as taxpayer funding. There is no reason why something as contentious as abortion ought to be funded by taxpayers, here or in the United States. It’s either a private choice, or it’s not. (And right now, it’s very, very public.)
Like a lot of social-service nonprofits in the United States, Planned Parenthood’s funding comes from a mix of government grants and private donations (probably a mix of foundation and individual donors). They will always ask for donations to expand their “charitable” work. I have no idea why maiming women and killing babies can be considered charitable, but it is.
The reason why we can’t understand “why maiming women and killing babies can be considered charitable” is because we don’t hold to a eugenicist mindset. I find the public funding of private “choice” to be an OUTRAGE.
