The guppiness factor and Bill C-484

August 27, 2008 by Andrea Mrozek 3 Comments

Naomi Lakritz of the Calgary Herald has written an excellent piece about clarity, abortion and Bill C-484.

My favourite line:

It is obvious to anyone with a minimal grasp of English that this bill is not about abortion. Notice the key words “criminally assault,” “wants and loves,” and “against her will.” That does not describe the pregnant woman rifling through the phone book in search of an address for the nearest abortion provider.

And my second-favourite line:

Next, politicians and abortion rights groups have to stop pretending that a fetus is not fully human because it can’t survive on its own. If it weren’t fully human, there wouldn’t be all this debate. We do not hold debates about the degree of guppiness of unborn guppies, do we? And if a fetus cannot survive on its own, neither can an infant or a toddler. Are they any less human?

Reading this also caused me to stop and realize that I am way too cautious on the topic of abortion. Yes, you heard me, too cautious. Because I’ve never seen any Canadian political leader do or say anything reasonable on abortion or defending unborn babies, I stopped thinking they ever could. Thanks to columns like this, I am reminded to demand nothing less. (But hey, a girl has to keep her sanity. Low expectations means that even politicians, from time to time, exceed ’em.)

I just finished reading Naomi Lakritz’s excellent Column in today’s Wednesday, August 27, 2008, Calgary Herald and would highly recommend all ProWomanProLife.org bloggers to do likewise.

Unfortunately far too many of our politicians and political leaders in Canada seem to get this fuzzy idea that centrist policies are the way to go if you want to win an election. With abortion there is no centre or middle ground position. Either you are for protecting the life of unborn baby human beings or you are not.

We live in a country that does not even have an abortion law in the books yet over 115,000 unborn baby children are terminated in their mother’s wombs through abortion every single year in Canada.

When you consider the wealth and resources available in a country like Canada that is a G7 country starving for a future population base because of dwindling birthrates the entire concept of abortion is absurd and certainly not what a just society should think about doing let alone doing it on the massive scale of close to 3 Million unborn baby children terminated through abortions in the past 25-30 years.

If Canada truly wants to become a just society the abortions of unborn baby children must end. It will take a politician and political leader of great courage and determination with very high expectations to end the practice of abortions right across this entire nation.

Ultimately, Bill C-484 is about abortion, and the pro-abortion crowd
knows it. If passed, every case prosecuted under this law would be a
reminder that the fetus is a living human. They can’t have this. It
could be the beginning of the end in the war on abortion. Your quoted
    “second-favorite line” proves the point.

this bill is an obvious bid to re-open a dead debate. read the Charter and weep: women’s security of the person trumps the arch-conservative, Christian-right’s project to keep her barefoot and pregnant and beat-down.

    too bad, so sad!
