The pressure is on in PEI

May 24, 2014 by Natalie Sonnen 5 Comments

Despite public funding of abortion services that take place off Prince Edward Island, the National Abortion Federation is pushing to have the procedure take place on the Island.

Dawn Fowler, Canadian director of the National Abortion Federation, says her organization has presented a business case to the Robert Ghiz government with the aim to make abortion services available to women in P.E.I.

According to this article in the Guardian, Fowler has three abortionists willing to cross over to the Island to perform abortions in the hospital’s ambulatory care rooms.

Not surprisingly, the government is resisting this move.  But Fowler seems determined.

The federation is planning a news conference in Charlottetown next Wednesday that will include one of the physicians willing to offer abortion services in P.E.I.

Why don’t we out the names of doctors who do abortions in Canada?
I think that knowing who performs abortions would help the pro-life movement focus on ways to curtail them.
And, yes, I do know that people would think that would make them victims, but we all know who does heart surgeries, etc. so why not know who does abortions?

Ive always been lead to believe that there isn’t much support for abortion on the Island. The notion that they would have to bring in an abotionist confirms it. Just how many people were at the abortion conference, and how many of them came from off the Island? Is there really enough support to justify the kind of disruption that having an abortion clinic on the Island would bring.

Time for the Islanders to organize a petition drive, and make sure they get it presented in the provincial legislature, methinks.

To Julie Culshaw, you answered your own question, not surprising that you didn’t realize it.

    You can’t be Pro-Woman if you’re Pro-Life. If you’re Pro-Life, you’re AGAINST women’s rights. Not for them.

Melissa, seriously, keep up to date with the current state of affairs in New Brunswick to realize why this has become so important. An abortion clinic in PEI won’t ‘disrupt’ anything. Kthxbainow.

Carla, when you see the effects of abortion on women, I could also ask how can you be pro-woman and pro-choice?

Abortion represents the worst type of violence against women. Unfortunately, the old-school feminists did a good job of convincing women that they had to renounce their feminity, including childbearing capacity, to be on an equal footing with men. This is the worst con perpetuated against women, and only benefits men (a certain type of man).
