Academics picked sides decades ago

February 10, 2009 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

Since starting this thing, I’ve talked about the tendency of the elite, very much including academics, to assume pro-choice=good and pro-life=anti-choice=very, very bad.

This column is a good one–about how Jojo Ruba was shouted down while giving a talk at St. Mary’s University.

Those who read Orwell’s Animal Farm will recall how discussion on the farm was quickly shut down by animals shouting, “Four legs good, two legs bad.” Well, it’s like that, and although the video doesn’t show the whole thing, (mercifully,) it goes on for 35 minutes.

There’s good news here, however. Pro-choice academics have gone unchallenged for quite a while and today across Canada we see plucky pro-life students who aren’t giving up the fight for the sake of degrees or grades. This is more than I can say for myself back in the day–and I’m impressed.

Thanks for linking to the excellent column, one of the best I’ve seen in defence of pro life students on campus. We need more of this, more public, reasoned responses. We should be speaking up loudly and often to protest the suppression of pro life voices. I write a personal letter – not an email – to the president of every university or student group that bans or shuts down a pro life group. They, and we, should be extraordinarily proud of these young pro life people. They show great courage to stand up to their peers. That is not an easy thing to do when the most readily defaced signs on the university campuses are the pro life signs. There is much work to be done, and the campus pro life groups are leading the way.

That article was amazing! I especially loved this line “It’s no secret universities are bastions of political correctness, love conformity and the only diversity accepted is that which is officially approved.”
