What a front cover, what a story. What good news! I haven’t read the article, and I’m betting they bemoan the fact that the pro-choice side is losing. Over here at ProWomanProLife, we celebrate this kind of thing. Everyone go and grab your favourite beverage and savour the fact that they even printed this as a cover story. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. Go now and celebrate!

I may be misreading and seeing a glass half empty however it seems to me ….
I agree with some of Kate Pickert’s (Time article author) analysis such as ‘thanks to prenatal ultrasound and advanced neonatolgy Americans now understand what a fetus looks like and that babies born as early as 24 weeks can now survive ..’. However, her article is concerned that ‘the pro choice side is losing ‘ and asks; ‘Has the fight for abortion rights been lost?’ This article is somewhat of a call to arms rather than a survey of a demographic change.
Kate Pickert informs the reader that ‘patients’ who wish to obtain this ‘surgical procedure’ in a ‘clinic’ are faced more and more with this ‘right’ being endangered. She alleges; ‘(it) is now more difficult to do so than at any point since the 1970’s’ even though ‘three quarters of Americans believe abortion should be legal in some or all cases’. In portraying this democratic ‘right’ as legitimate she goes on to point out that ‘pro life legislators are passing laws that require clinics to comply with arcane requirements’.
The article is rife with allegations, fear mongering and creative statistics. We have always known what a ‘fetus’ looks like and that babies can survive at 24 weeks. The allegation that the ‘pro choice side is losing’ is just that, an allegation.. There is no ‘right’ to abortion. The claim of ‘three quarters of Americans’ being pro choice is a creative account that could be easily flipped to say ‘three quarters of Americans believe there should be protection for the unborn’. A fair presentation this is not and seems like it is sounding the alarm rather than heralding a victory.
I hope my previous comment was not a downer.
Thanks for focusing on the good point that the article is front cover and that in itself is a plus. Moreover, drawing attention to the gains in Pro Life concerns is a boost to those who are caring for for life issues. The article draws attention to a number of things including younger people are well informed and many are Pro Life. It’s amazing how significant that ‘information’ thing is.
David, I get what you are saying and I figured that they would phrase the loss of “abortion rights” as a terrible thing. But we know it to be a great gain. And so we can celebrate.
Like other affronts to human life and liberty throughout history (e.g., slavery, Nazism) the house of cards disguised as women’s rights can no longer be supported. The horrible face of abortion is being exposed for its true nature – a disgusting, barbarism with no redeeming quality.
