The latest shooting attack, in suburban Pittsburgh was, according to news reports, the work of a man who had blogged about his trouble finding a girlfriend and who had written publicly about his murderous plans on his blog. As a result, innocent women are dead. Did nobody read his blog? Did nobody think it was weird? Why the heck not?

People claim quite often on the internet that they are being driven to going postal, or even make threats to kill specific individuals – the vast majority of which are nothing but idle boasts, made by people without the will to follow through, and who never expect to. This makes it impossible to filter from the mess those few who are actually capable of what they threaten.
Probably, if anyone did read his blog, they did find it weird. The question is whether there was any way to know these were anything more than empty threats spouted by a frustrated man. It’s sad that no one suspected he would to stop him, further emphasizing how isolated people are today.
The internet is unfortunately a place where statements need not be spoken sincerely, nor with the support of the facts. People develop a thick skin. I know I’ve many exorbitant statements about myself which unfortunately no one believed.
