It’s a decent speech. However, I must admit, I am merely grateful that Irene Mathyssen is no longer speaking; still recovering. It was like listening to a preaching school marm.

He supports it. He says he has received many letters on the topic and many from young women. Hear hear.

Irene is a drama queen, I have decided. Impressive performance in the category of conjuring up offense.

However, she has just done something useful by highlighting all the legislation she dislikes from backbenchers on the life issue. It shows how this issue is never going away and we are going to face more and more attempts to restore justice to Canada.

“They turn pregnant women into lesser citizens whose rights are subordinated to the rights of a fertilized egg,” she says. Apparently if we discuss the issue of when life begins we are no longer a sustainable, just society. Or a world leader in women’s rights.

A lot of her speech is spoken in very huffy tones.

Now she is spouting the myths about how abortion saves women’s lives. Wish I could show her the data.

She is offended that someone would classify a fertilized egg as a person.

But why do I care if she is offended? I care about what is true. Her offense means absolutely nothing, no matter how passionately she expresses it.

She mentions that women have fought hard for the right to choose when they have children. Which of course alludes to the fact that the fetus is a child.

This debate is about fundamental, universal human rights and about a 400 year old law frozen in time.
