Suicides on the rise

October 22, 2008 by Andrea Mrozek 1 Comment

Suicide rates are on the rise for both women and men. Read about this, here.

Suicides for white adults ages 40 to 64 rose 17 percent from 1999 to 2005, researchers said. For middle-age white men, the rate rose 14 percent to 26.9 per 100,000 in 2005 from 23.1 per 100,000 in 1999. For white women in that age group, the rate rose 19 percent to 8.2 per 100,000 from 6.9 per 100,000.

From time to time, pro-abortion advocates tell me that if abortion were so bad, really, we’d be seeing an epidemic of wounded women. Which, they then say, we’re not seeing.

Really? Seems to me we do have some problems in our culture, generally speaking, with too many people on anti-depressants, and visiting psychiatrists and all.

Now I know the difference between causation and correlation, and I am not saying abortion is causing or even correlated to this increase in suicides. What I am saying is that there’s a problem when suicide rates go up that much that suddenly–and we won’t necessarily ever be able to find a direct link. Oftentimes social problems experienced broadly can’t be directly traced to one single source.

Yet there’s no doubt that abortion causes an increase in depression, suicide and suicide ideation–on that the literature is quite clear, in spite of what the American Psychological Association claims. And so when I saw this report about increased suicides, it made me think of a possible link to abortion. The walking wounded–they are all around us–if we care enough to see.

Tanya thinks this is no coincidence. Quebec not only has the highest abortion rate in Canada, it also has the highest rate of suicides. In fact, it has the third highest rate of suicides in the industrialized world.

This is big

March 16, 2008 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

For decades, the medical establishment has maintained that there are no mental health risks for women after abortion. That is changing. Read about it here.

Several studies, including research published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry in 2006, concluded that abortion in young women might be associated with risks of mental health problems…

I know the American Psychological Association is also reviewing their position statement on women’s mental health following abortion. The new statement has not yet been released, but the very fact that they took down the old one saying abortion has no negative mental health effects means they know about the growing body of credible evidence showing quite the opposite. (Those studies show increased risks of suicide, suicide ideation, depressive episodes, hospitalization for depression and even things like increased drug use and engaging in risky sexual activity.)

Andrea emphasizes: This is not yet another study coming out showing negative mental health affects for women the result of abortion. This announcement from the United Kingdom shows a body of doctors paying heed to the existing research.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists says women should not be allowed to have an abortion until they are counselled on the possible risk to their mental health…

That’s why this announcement is so big. Because the studies showing poor outcomes have existed for a while, it’s just no one listened to them. That’s what’s changing.

Tanya adds: It is big, I agree. The question is what took them so long. After all, a the British Medical Journal reported this in 2002 , and in 1996, a Finnish study concluded an “increased risk of suicide after an induced abortion.”

Then there’s the New Zealand study which reported in 2006 that “Young women who have had an abortion may be at increased risk of developing mental health problems.” Yet 98.9 percent of abortions granted in New Zealand are “done on ‘mental health’ grounds.” Why did it take so long for women to get informed consent?

Legal abortion kills woman, age 30

February 22, 2008 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

This ought to be front page news in every paper across the globe.

Emma Beck’s suicide note read as follows:

Living is hell for me. I should never have had an abortion…I see now I would have been a good mum. I told everyone I didn’t want to do it, even at the hospital…

In February the following year, the night before her 31st birthday, Miss Beck hanged herself at her home in Helston.

This is not the first time I have heard a woman tell her story and say that she told the abortionist she did not want an abortion. It is in fact probably closer to the tenth time. I’m starting to understand how choice-friendly these people are. What part of “I don’t want to do this” don’t they understand?

But I got to hear the other women say it live, instead of reading it in a suicide note.

I wrote about the increased risk of depression, suicide, suicide ideation and mental health episodes the result of abortion here. It’s a link becoming increasingly clear to just about everyone who cares enough to see it. And this, unfortunately, does not include most of those groups advocating for “women’s rights,” who insist on castigating the evidence as part of a pro-life conspiracy.

May Emma Beck rest in peace.
