Defending after-birth abortion

March 4, 2012 by Natalie Sonnen 2 Comments

On the subject of after-birth abortion, the editor of the Journal of Medical Ethics not only makes a defense for publishing it, but whines about the nasty responses it received.

As Editor of the Journal, I would like to defend its publication. The arguments presented, are [from] the most eminent philosophers and bioethicists in the world, including Peter Singer, Michael Tooley and John Harris in defense of infanticide, which the authors call after-birth abortion.”

Is that so! “In defense of infanticide…” If this is not a fine example of how post-modern, liberal academics lose their grip on reality, I don’t know what is.

The “most popular” comment by one Eric_Dunham in the blog comment section is not to be missed:

…You attacked the deepest held beliefs of the majority of humanity. You allowed an article to be published that advocates dispassionate violence against the most helpless of all human beings.
Yet, somehow, all you’re worried about is the “deep opposition” … “to liberal values and fanatical opposition to” … “reasoned engagement.”

I do like it when “liberal values” get exposed, and real reasoning gets a chance to stand up.

4 Million and Counting

February 22, 2012 by Natalie Sonnen Leave a Comment

An interesting campaign has begun in Saskatoon this week: 4millionandcounting.com. The billboards, bus bench ads etc. point people to a web-site that links to a random grouping of excellent sites including the San Jose Articles, the Elliot Institute in the US, the 180 Movie among other items. The point is to highlight that over four million abortions have occurred in Canada…and counting.

It is certainly a good effort, but my question is this: will it achieve what it sets out to do? Presumably that would be to educate the masses. Will it appeal to and move the mushy middle? Will it change hearts and minds? Here’s hoping. I would like to see how this campaign goes, and if differences in public opinion before and after can be ascertained.

Caesar’s Thumb

February 7, 2012 by Natalie Sonnen Leave a Comment

I thought that this might be a fitting article for my first post on ProWomanProLife, found by accident while I was looking up something about ancient Rome! It’s entitled “Caesar’s Thumb” by the great-grandson of King George V, Lord Nicholas Windsor.

A brilliant article and well worth the read especially in light of Stephen Woodworth’s continued efforts (and motion today in the House of Commons) to re-open the debate that is trying with all its might to remain closed.

And this enforcement of a new status quo succeeds so well due, surely, to benefits enjoyed as a result—benefits of an order that make acceptable even the killing of innocents, by their protectors, on a scale that freezes the imagination. How much then must depend on its remaining so, remaining beyond question? This is the nub of that ideological word choice. So much else can be chosen in a given life if the option to dispose of unwanted children is dependably available.”
