Fine, I’ll bite

May 6, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 6 Comments

Yes, I had heard about the girl who filmed her own abortion, posted it on YouTube and then discussed it in Cosmo.

No, I didn’t want to comment. But apparently, as per this Gawker article “only men” are weighing in. This is surely because the vast majority of pundits are men, not because women approve of her decision to a) have an abortion and b) post it on the internet.

I’m not really a pundit, but hopefully my words about this count for something.

First off, before I found out she worked at an abortion clinic, I knew she was the most ideological of ideological abortion supporters. AKA, not my target audience. It simply is not normal to be THAT pro-abortion. THAT public.

Secondly, yes, I did go back and forth between swearing and sadness upon reading the story. With women who flippantly end lives in a public manner, that will very likely always be my response. It is awfully hard for a person like me not to get angry–followed up by a good dosage of sad–and then angry again. Then sad. Repeat. Because life is a very special thing, and she is making a total and complete charade of it.

In one brazenly irresponsible action–with the attitude of an impulsive teenager–she is putting her immaturity on display for all the world to see. She thinks she is teaching the world something. Which she is, just not what she thinks.

I’ll leave it at that.

One week to go

Ninety percent funded, but remember, if they don’t reach 100% they don’t get anything. Who do you know who has not contributed, who can contribute to the making of this movie about Kermit Gosnell, America’s worst serial killer?

Today’s Post and my article

May 2, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 5 Comments

I’m always grateful when any paper publishes a piece by yours truly, but in today’s Post someone edited my use of the word “pro-choice” and made it into “anti-abortion,” which obviously has the opposite meaning. Makes for a tricky read, and so I thought I’d post a little addendum by yours truly, here. I don’t think the piece is online so I can’t link to it here.

(Update: The corrected online version is here.)

12 days left

I’m trying to think just now, of who I can personally ask to give money to this crowdfunding effort for the Gosnell movie. The funding is ticking upwards, but they have not yet met their goal and I really hope they do. Ponder who you can send a request to donate to. Here’s the link.

Again:

  • These are great filmmakers (I’ve seen two of their other movies)
  • They are doing something totally counter-cultural
  • This will draw attention to the plight of the unborn in general, not just in the Gosnell case
  • We need more pro-life documentaries and movies

Keeping a pregnancy private

May 1, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

One woman’s attempt to keep her pregnancy totally private. I think it’s interesting and it draws attention, once again, to the fact that in using something like Facebook, we are the product, people. It’s not a free service.

About New Brunswick

April 28, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 1 Comment

Small, emphasis on small, protests in support of using government funds to keep a private abortion clinic open in New Brunswick happened this past weekend.

Small groups of pro-choice protesters rallied in Montreal and Ottawa today in support of women in New Brunswick after the announcement earlier this month that the province’s only private abortion clinic would be shut down.

There are no news items I can see from the “rally” on Parliament Hill. Which would, I assume, mean that one was smaller than the five people we see here in Montreal.

Vicki Saporta of the National Abortion Federation in the USA is getting involved from Washington DC. People in New Brunswick believe this clinic is being used as a PR stunt to change New Brunswick’s law. When Vicki gets involved I’m inclined to agree.

Support New Brunswick and sign a pro-life petition, here.

Keep funding the Gosnell movie

April 28, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

I just thought of another reason to give money to this movie: They are not there yet but it looks like it will be successful. This will drive all the right people crazy.

They need $2.1 million. They are at about 1.4 million. If they don’t get 2.1 million by May 12, they lose all the money. If they do, the movie will be made.

You know what to do! Donate here.

We Need a Law challenges you

April 25, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 6 Comments

We Need a Law has written a thorough piece defending their view that gestational limits, or incrementalism as it is sometimes known, is the way to fight abortion in the political arena in Canada today. I tend to agree, though one thoughtful pastor (Protestant, I may as well mention, since so often I think people believe that Catholics are against incrementalism and Protestants for) did present me with some thoughtful arguments on why one might be against incrementalism.

Anyway, the challenge WNAL thoughtfully places before you, if you disagree with them, is to convince them on why they are wrong:

We want to conclude with a challenge. If you think we are wrong, please address these points one by one and explain why. Be specific.

This matters, greatly. It’s no great secret that the pro-life movement is not unified on this matter. And we need unity if we are going to stand up and fight together.

I personally think, without wanting to be insulting, that those who are against incrementalism in the political sphere aren’t actually called to fight abortion in the political sphere. We need educators in the cultural sphere who won’t waver one bit: We know when life begins and we should teach this. But to preach non-incrementalism in the political environment is an exercise in futility.

I say this as someone who is more on the educational side of the battle myself. (Three arms to being pro-life these days: Educational, Political and Charitable.)

Anyway, I know the division. And I know that pro-lifers are a strong-minded crew, myself very much included. If we can discuss this thoughtfully–we’ll be one step ahead.

If you have thoughts to email, please send them to info [at] weneedalaw.ca

Courageous Canadians–making us proud

April 24, 2014 by Andrea Mrozek 4 Comments

I want to draw your attention to this new web site, Porn Fuels Rape.

My friends Daniel Gilman and Jonathan Van Maren have started this important initiative. They held an event at University of Ottawa campus recently.

Here’s what I love about this initiative:

  • sexual ethics or the lack thereof is a real problem in our culture, particularly on campus
  • this problem is typically addressed by (for lack of a better word) leftist feminists on campus
  • leftist feminists on campus want to end sexual abuse, of this I am sure
  • they do not come up with productive ideas on how to do so
  • men need to speak to men about the nature of the problem
  • porn is ubiquitous and I have seen it take good men down
  • if we aren’t brave enough to identify porn as a major societal problem, then nothing’s gonna change

Enter Daniel, Jonathan and Peter with a public condemnation of porn, so much of which is coerced and actually rape itself, and which fuels the lucrative industry of human trafficking. They also bring the Christian message of hope and redemption into their presentation as I understand it. (I wasn’t able to attend.)

Courageous Canadians. They should be in the Globe and Mail when they do those Top 30 under 30 rankings. I know they won’t be, and I know these guys aren’t asking for recognition. They’ll get their reward in due course when someone more important than a Globe editor (imagine that!) says, “Well done, my good and faithful servants.”

Here’s Jonathan:
