Write the PM in support of Minister Ambrose

September 29, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 9 Comments

I know I’ve been asking you to sign a petition in support of Rona Ambrose. Apparently what matters more are letters to the Prime Minister, copying in Minister Ambrose.

The letter can be very, very short. The subject line can say something like

Re.: M-312, Thank you Minister Ambrose

And the body can simply say:

I would like to thank Minister Ambrose for her vote on M-312.

Sincerely, [INSERT YOUR NAME HERE].

The email addresses you need are:

[email protected] and more importantly, [email protected]

Thank you.

Do a short video to support Minister Ambrose

September 28, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

It’s the weekend soon, which means you have all kinds of time to show support for Status of Women Minister Rona Ambrose. Do up a short video or just take a picture of yourself holding up a piece of paper that says, THANKS, and send it in. More info on how to do so, below. I’m not sure if there is an official petition. If not, I believe we should start one, because that would be an effective way to let the record stand that it’s not just the extremists who oppose her vote on M-312 that are signing things. Seriously, people. Calling for a cabinet minister’s resignation for her vote on a non-binding motion that asked a couple of questions? For. Pete’s. Sake. (Insert a different word for “Pete” and you’ll get a better feel for how annoyed I am. Sometimes swearing is called for. But not in print! That’s the rule around this blog.)

One in three

September 28, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek Leave a Comment

To begin with, I wonder about the “one in three” women will have an abortion in their lifetime. Reason being, there are many women who have repeat abortions. However, even if it’s true, this article would still be the logical response to why we don’t normalize abortion just because it’s common.

Your new favourite number

408. As in Motion 408. To condemn sex-selection abortion. I’m quoted in this article about it:

‘Minister Ambrose is to be commended for having an open mind,’ said Andrea Mrozek, the founder of a group calling itself ProWomanProLife. ‘There is a stranglehold on freedom of expression around abortion, a dictatorial attitude that somehow all women are supposed to be fervently pro-choice,’ she added. Mrozek is also the communications manager for the Institute of Marriage and Family Canada.

No one to debate Motion 312?

September 27, 2012 by Natalie Sonnen 4 Comments

I was all ready to do an interview this afternoon for CTV’s PowerPlay – a great opportunity to discuss the vote last night on Motion 312 and all the fall-out that has since taken place.

But alas, there was no one on ‘the other side’ that would step up to the plate and discuss the issue.  The young woman arranging the interview really did give it a valiant go, I do believe that.  But despite my own willingness to participate, there was a sense that we certainly couldn’t have me do the interview all alone.  Representing the views of a pro-life individual without anyone to challenge them is a BIT much!

I think, if anything has been made clear throughout these months leading up to yesterday’s vote, it is that the “other side’ really is not in favour of the democratic process.  They are terrified of the debate, terrified of  what medical science might reveal, and hold onto their decades-old feminist screed more dogmatically than any religious fanatic I have ever come across.

So the interview was cancelled.  ‘Tis a pity, cause I also wanted to show off my big, 38-week, pregnant belly (containing my child which according to Section 223 is not a human-being; something that I find grossly offensive).

For Immediate Release: ProWomanProLife congratulates Rona Ambrose, Minister for Status of Women

September 27, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 2 Comments

Women do not have one opinion on abortion; ProWomanProLife congratulates Status of Women Minister Rona Ambrose for her willingness to ask tough questions

September 27, 2012 (Ottawa)—Today ProWomanProLife would like to congratulate all Members of Parliament who voted yes on Motion 312, which called for a non-partisan committee to discuss when life begins.

ProWomanProLife specifically congratulates Minister for Status of Women Rona Ambrose for recognizing that Canadians can ask questions about when life begins.

“ProWomanProLife recognizes that women across Canada have many different views on abortion, which are probably neither firmly in the pro-life nor the pro-choice camp,” says ProWomanProLife founder, Andrea Mrozek. “However, since M-312 called only for discussion, voting in favour of it is a vote for debate and democracy and that can only be a good thing. Minister Ambrose is to be commended for having an open mind.”

“M-312 was not expected to pass, and indeed it didn’t. However, it advanced our ability to respectfully ask questions and debate the issue of when life begins,” says Mrozek. She continues: “All Canadians, whether pro-life or pro-choice are served well through respectful debate.”

“There is a stranglehold on freedom of expression around abortion, a dictatorial attitude that somehow all women are supposed to be fervently pro-choice,” adds Mrozek. “This is simply not the case; women don’t have one mind on this issue, as with so many other issues,” Mrozek concludes.

ProWomanProLife represents women across Canada who are pro-life because it is a pro-woman position to take. The idea that abortion is a woman’s right is just an opinion, which is not grounded in law, logic, our constitution or early feminist thought.

M-312 defeated as expected

September 26, 2012 by Andrea Mrozek 11 Comments

People, the lead up was a good one, very productive. People talked about abortion, in the House of Commons and it did not implode.

We knew it wouldn’t pass, and it didn’t. 91 Yays, 203 Nays.

I didn’t note anything unexpected in those voting for and against. I was particularly happy to see Rona Ambrose vote yes, alongside Jason Kenney. If there are other cabinet ministers who voted yes who I missed, please let me know.
